KGA believes in the leadership of Southeast Asian girls and women to create social change. We recognize that young women of color are often marginalized in social justice movements; therefore, our programming invests in and empowers young Southeast Asian women and girls between the ages of 14-21 to become leaders in their community and their lives.

Leadership Development

Our leadership development programs build the capacity of our high school members to understand how their physical, emotional, and mental well-being is influenced by political, social, cultural, and economic factors. While each program fosters the development of positive self-image, feminist principles and supportive female alliances, as each member graduates from and moves into the next program they receive advanced leadership and community organizing skills so that they are equipped with the necessary tools and skills to identify and impact positive change in their communities.

KGA Leadership Development Model

Young Women's Empowerment Program (YWEP)

All members participate in our Young Women’s Empowerment Program in their first year with KGA. In YWEP, young women are given the space learn about and explore their individual and community identities. In YWEP we foster positive self-images, health, well being and sisterhood in addition to developing members leaderships and critical thinking skills through political awareness trainings.

Youth Leadership Program (YLP)

The Youth Leadership Program is made up of Core Leaders who have gone through the Young Women’s Empowerment Program. YLP provides advanced political education trainings, political skill-building trainings, and develops the members community organizing skills so that they can lead committee work and projects.
