Joy Yanga is a second generation Filipina- American born and raised in Los Angeles. She is a daughter of immigrants who sought political relief and economic opportunities during martial law.
Growing up in an intergenerational household with family members with diverse abilities paved her path in advocacy to improve health and economic outcomes for low-income women, youth, migrant, and disabled communities of color.
Joy has been part of the KGA team for a decade, starting off as a program coordinator. She now currently directs communications and oversees the Integrated Voter Engagement program. In her capacity in serving on the management team, Joy helps to develop staff leadership and digital tech infrastructure to increase organizational capacity and to build community power to win.
Joy received her B.A in American Studies at UC Santa Cruz, where she was involved in student activism and student-led research projects. She loves learning and being creative. She is inspired by people power, the arts, nature, and functional design.
