Matt is a second generation Khmer and Chinese activist and educator. Matt is born to immigrant parents from Orange County who then moved to the Inland Empire before he was born. He graduated from UC San Diego with a B.A. in Political Science with a specialization in International Relations. At UCSD, Matt was part of Asian Pacific Islander Student Alliance’s board (APSA) and implemented college access curriculum for the Student Promoted Access Center for Education and Services (SPACES). In San Diego, he also directed the Southeast Asian class of 2025 cohort for First Gen Scholars, helping 20 SEA students apply for college. Being a low income, first generation college student, Matt brings with him personal and professional educational equity experience intertwined with his political and activist knowledge. Outside of work, Matt enjoys being outside in nature, going on walks with his dog Mischka, and trying new restaurants and recipes.
