Soriya is a second-generation Cambodian American born and raised in Long Beach, CA. Her parents and two older siblings migrated from the Khmer Rouge genocide to the United States as refugees in 1986. As her parents worked tirelessly together to raise a family of 8, she felt a lot of hardship in her upbringing and found it difficult to navigate the world as a young woman of color.
Her experiences led her to join Khmer Girls in Action as a high school student in 2008 and work to advocate for youth empowerment, equality, and justice in her Long Beach community. As an alumnus of KGA, Soriya is proud to return as a full-time staff member and continue to help build a safe space for youth and a bigger foundation for their voices to be heard.
